Multiple earthquakes shook Southern California hours after atremor was felt on the East Coaston Aug. 5, according to data from theU.S. Geological Survey. Onequake hit Rialto, California,in the evening hours on Aug. 5, followed by two more overnight in the San Bernardino area, according to USGS. In Northern California, two tremors also struck overnight outside of Petrolia and Ferndale, respectively. Hours earlier on Aug. 5, some in New York reported feeling shaking after anearthquake rattled northern New Jersey. Here's a look at the latest earthquakes, according to USGS. At around 8 p.m. ET or 5 p.m. local time on Aug. 5, amagnitude 3.5 quakewith a depth of about four miles hit about four miles northwest of Rialto, California, according to USGS. Overnight, anothermagnitude 3.5 tremorwas recorded about three miles southeast of Ontario at around 4 a.m. ET or 1 a.m. local time on Aug. 6. That event had a depth of around four miles, per USGS. An hour after that, amagnitude 3.7 quakewith a roughly 6.5 mile depth hit less than four miles north of Lytle Creek, per USGS. All three events caused light shaking around the San Bernardino area, according to impact reportscompiled by USGS, which are not scientifically verified. Two earthquakes also hit off the coast of Northern California overnight Aug. 6, according to USGS. At around 1 a.m. ET, or 10 p.m. local time Aug. 5, amagnitude 3.4 tremorwas recorded about 100 miles west of Ferndale, per USGS. Amagnitude 2.9 quakestruck about 11 miles west of Petrolia about an hour later, according to USGS. No shaking was reported in the area as of 7 a.m. ET, per USGS impact reports. Amagnitude 2.7 earthquakerattled parts of New York and New Jersey around midday on Aug. 5, according to USGS. The tremor struck just over a mile southwest of Hillsdale, New Jersey, at about 12:11 p.m. ET, and had a depth of about seven miles, according to USGS. Hillsdale is about 20 miles northwest of Manhattan. Weak shaking was felt throughout parts of northern New Jersey, including Newark, Paterson and Englewood, and across the New York City area, according toimpact reports compiled by USGS.
