Dashcam footage shows a car driving in the wrong direction on a highway in Spanish Fork, Utah, nearly striking other vehicles in its path. The wrong-way driver was captured by Clayton Shumway on Sunday, Aug. 24, according to Storyful. Shumway told the outlet that the white SUV almost hit his vehicle as it moved against the incoming traffic. Other cars are seen swerving into other lanes to avoid a collision. According to a news release and video from the Utah Highway Patrol, a sergeantresponded to multiple reports about the wrong-way driver on Interstate 15. "When he arrived, the driver was still headed the wrong direction down the emergency shoulder," the agency said, adding that the sergeant "intervened and both vehicles were disabled in the crash." The sergeant had minor injuries as a result of the incident. Authorities identified the driver as an elderly person who was "confused and did not realize the danger they were in." It is unclear whether the driver will face any charges for the incident. USA TODAY contacted the Utah Highway Patrol on Aug. 26 but has not received a response.
