Maria O'Brien, an actress onMatlockandProtocol, has died. She was 75.

The actress and acting coach died on Feb. 24,DeadlineandThe Hollywood Reporterreported. Her cause of death has not been revealed at this time.

O'Brien came from a famous acting family in Los Angeles. She was the daughter of Oscar-winning actor Edmond O'Brien, who died in 1985, and musical comedy star Olga San Juan, who died in 2009.

O'Brien's first acting credit was in an episode of the 1963 TV showSam Benedict. She had a successful acting career over the next three decades, appearing on several TV shows, includingViva Valdez(1976),The Life and Times of Eddie Roberts(1980),Quincy, M.E.(1980-82) andMatlock(1988).

The late actress also appeared in several films includingShell Game(1975),Choirboys(1977),Prime Time(1977),The Incredible Shrinking Woman(1980) andProtocol(1984), starring opposite Goldie Hawn, Jean Smart and Richard Romanus.

Later in her career, O'Brien worked as an acting coach on the daytime drama seriesSunset BeachandPassions. She then secured a position as an acting coach on the soap operaDays of Our Lives, where she remained for over 15 years up until she retired in 2022, perTHR.

In 1983, O'Brien testified before Congress about the devastating effects of Alzheimer's Disease, following her father's diagnosis with the disease. Her father was one of the first actors to be publicly diagnosed with the disease, per Deadline.

Billy Idolrevealed the surprising substance that helped him kick his heroin habit.

During a Monday, March 2 appearance onClub Random with Bill Maher, the "White Wedding" performer spoke about how smoking crack helped him wean off of the substance.

"Once you're trying to get off heroin, what do you go to? You go to something else," said Idol, 70.

He continued, "I started smoking crack to get off heroin."

Bill Maherthen asked if he "really" did that, to which Idol replied, "It worked. It worked."

In his documentaryBilly Idol Should Be Dead,which premiered at Tribeca festival in June 2025, the "Eyes Without a Face" artist reflected on his near-fatal overdose in London in 1984 in the midst of the success of his second albumRebel Yell.

At the time, Idol had found major success in the United States but had decided to return to England as a sort of victory lap, "because I'd done it."

"I was coming back in triumph and I nearly ruined it," said Idol at the time. "We flew to London where we met a load of our pals that we knew. They had some of the strongest heroin. Everybody did a line or so and they all nodded out except for me and this mate of mine."

Idol recalled doing more of the heroin with his friend while the rest of the group passed out,

"I was basically dying. I was turning blue," he recalled. "So they put me in an ice cold bath and I remember them walking me around on the top of the building, on the roof."

In the doc, the Grammy-nominated singer explains the allure of drugs during his hard-partying days, saying it was something that the rock scene really "embraced" at the time.Additionally in the documentary, Idol revealed that he ultimately gave up heroin for good after a wild trip to Bangkok that resulted in him and a friend racking up an estimated $75,000 in damages to a hotel. At the time, hisson Willem, who was born in 1988, was a baby.

Idol recalled passing out in an elevator at one point with the elevator doors opening and closing on him.

Inan exclusive interview with PEOPLE in May 2024, he revealed that he was "California sober."

He said he chose "not be a drug addict anymore" after a 1990 motorcycle accident he was involved inwhere he almost lost his leg.

"I really started to think I should try and go forward and not be a drug addict anymore and stuff like that," Idol recalled. "It took a long time, but gradually I did achieve some sort of discipline where I'm not really the same kind of guy I was in the '80s. I'm not the same drug addicted person."

He continued: "I mean, AA would say, 'You're always a drug addict.' And that may be true, but I don't do anything that much anymore. I got over it somehow. I was really lucky that I could get over it because a lot of people can't."

Once in a while, Idol said he can imbibe once in a while without it affecting him."I can have a glass of wine every now and again," he said. "I don't have to do nothing. But at the same time, I'm not the drug addict that I was in the peak '70s, '80s."

Valerie Bertinelli reveals in her new memoir Getting Naked that she was sexually abused at age 11, telling PEOPLE in this week's cover story, "It doesn't feel like it owns me anymore."

• The star, 65, says that the process of opening up about it has taken her "at least" a decade as she was forced to confront shame and self-criticism that was rooted in her childhood trauma.

• Calling herself "a survivor," Bertinelli credits her son Wolfgang Van Halen, cooking and her work on The Drew Barrymore Show with helping her move forward and focus on the positive.

"I had no plans to reveal this," saysValerie Bertinelli. "This was going to be a book about teaching people how to love themselves. I did not know that I would go this far."

For the first time, the star, 65, is revealing that she was sexually abused at 11 years old.

"I guess because I'm healing from it, it's not so scary anymore," Bertinelli tells PEOPLE in this week's cover story. "I can say it out loud. I was sexually assaulted. It doesn't feel like it owns me anymore."

It's part of the "raw truth" that Bertinellii shares in her new book,Getting Naked,out on March 10 from Harper Wave. "It's about getting getting naked with who I am, emotionally, physically," she says. "It was really about getting to the nitty gritty and getting to the parts that I thought were shameful and come to find out they're not. They're all kinds of different facets of what makes us who we are."

To open that chapter of the book, Bertinelli "purposely" included a picture of herself at 11 years old "because that was the little girl that was sexually abused," she says. "And it boggles my mind that this little girl was taken advantage of that way. It boggles my mind because it's still happening ... and I'm furious about it. And we need to start speaking up and saying, 'Enough.'"

"It's taken me 10 years at least," she explains of her decision to come forward. "The very first time I said it out loud to my therapist, I thoughtI'm going to feel better now.It got worse before it got better. I maybe ate a little bit more, drank a little bit more. When you stop eating things for comfort, stop drinking alcohol, it exposes your feelings. You can deal with them or not. And I chose to deal with them. I don't feel shame about it anymore. I'm pissed off that it happened. Nobody deserves that."

And then came 2024, a rough year for Bertinelli. "I had a huge anxiety attack at the end of 2024 that brought me to my knees," she says. "And I thoughtI'm not getting anywhere. I needed to do more work." That meant digging into what was behind the body shame and the self criticism that she'd long held over the years.

"All of that shame had nothing to do with my body," she says. "It was just something to take out my shame on. My poor body. I was so mean to it. I just needed to get all those voices out of my head. As I was going through that, I'm thinking people are going to wonder, why do I have so much self loathing? That's not normal. It's because trauma happened in my childhood for the most part. I can't speak for anybody else but it's pretty textbook."

Asked what she was like at 11 years old, she says, "I loved to color, read, play with my Barbies and ride my bike around the block. I loved my cats.  I was just a little girl."

Looking back, she simply says, "I'm a survivor."

Through all the turmoil, Bertinelli still leads with her heart. It's all part of the emotional connection she shares with fans who've followed her for decades, from the time she was 15 years old onOne Day at a Time, toHot in Cleveland (with her good friendBetty White) and now as part of the "Drew Crew" onThe Drew Barrymore Show.

She credits her work on the show withDrew Barrymore, which she calls "an oasis," and the love and support of her son,Wolfgang Van Halen, and her love of cooking with helping her heal. And she's focusing on the positive, along with her new digital platform,Valerie's Place. "I want to build a community where everybody is welcome. It's a place where people can come in to my kitchen and cook with me because I've missed that a lot."

"It was really challenging. There wasn't a lot of time for play, but when I did, I played pretty hard," Lovato said after getting candid about "self-medicating" during the arduous time.

"I mean, that's very [expletive]," Palmer replied. "I know we don't want any of the drama of it, but I feel like people don't understand that that's what we was dealing with. You know, I found myself dating —  I'm 15. Why is my boyfriend 20?"

Lovato interjected, "Uh, why was my boyfriend 30? You know what I'm saying?"

"Girl! ****!" Palmer exclaimed. "That is real. We was trying to find outlets, though. A way to process."

Both the "Heart Attack" singer, now 33, and Palmer, now 32, went on to lament that "nobody our age could understand" at the time the intricacies of what they and other teen stars were dealing with in the spotlight.

"But then when you look back in hindsight — when I turned 30, I was like, 'That's not OK,'" Lovato added.

The "One of Them Days" leading lady told Lovato that it wasn't until she reached the age of the adults she used to associate with that she realized she was being exploited.

"The moment when you realize and you get the age that a lot of people that were around you and doing stuff, it's almost a mental break that can happen," she shared. "Because you realize: 'You were taking advantage of [me]. Oh, I was being exploited.' That was very difficult for me."

Palmer recalled making sense of the age gap in her early relationship because of the nature of her job.

"At 15, I'm thinking, 'My boyfriend's older because I'm doing an older job. And I'm doing a bunch of things, and this is the way that it is,'" she explained. "And it seemed normal in my mind."

Lovato interjected to add: "Especially if you're an older soul, too. Especially if you're mature for your age."

Palmer then praised former Disney star Hilary Duff for releasing the vulnerable tune "Mature," in which she reflected on an inappropriate relationship she had with an older man during her youth.

"It's like, 'Oh, ****, we all had the same **** life,'" Palmer said. "Where people kept telling us, 'You're so mature for your age.'"

Lovato gushed over Duff's song before sharing that she released something similar. "I also wrote a song about that. It's called '29,′ and when you listen to it, I think you'll be able to relate to it."

Adapted fromJulia Quinn's books, the Netflix hit series from Shondaland now hasfour seasons. Each season traces the love story of one of the eight Bridgerton siblings, giving audiences memorable heart-fluttering and swoon-worthy moments, cementing it as one of the streamer's most popular shows.

The couple told People and TMZ that they'd exchanged their "I dos" in front of an Elvis impersonator at Las Vegas' Little White Chapel. A bigger wedding celebration will take place later in January, the couple told People, with Harrison revealing to TMZ that the event will take place in Cancún, Mexico. The couple, who'd met at the beginning of 2024, previously revealed their engagement in March.

4. Benedict Bridgerton (Season 4)

While Benedict initially fumbled,asking Sophie to be his mistress, he made sure not to mess it up the second time around, laying bare his heart and soul as he told Sophie she was the person he was "searching for all his life."

"There isn't a single moment you do not fill my mind," Benedict told Sophie. "I've heard every qualm you've raised about being with me. And I wish there was some other way for us to be together. But the thought of spending a single day without you torments my soul. You deserve the very world. But how else am I supposed to be with the woman society has made it impossible for me to be with? The woman I was foolish enough to fall in love with."

When Sophie cut him off saying he "cannot," Benedict responded saying that though society bans him from even thinking of a maid, she has yet "taken possession of me, shot me back to life, turned me from someone who could not sit still for a moment to one who wishes to be in one single place beside you for as long as I might live."

When reminded he will eventually need to take a wife to fulfil his family and society's demands, Benedict said his family already has an heir, so he "would not marry."

"I could not look twice at anyone else," he told Sophie. "If only you would love me back. You are not that kite in my study. You're the person I have been searching for all my life. I love you. I love you. I love you."

3. Colin Bridgerton (Season 3)

While attempting to teach his childhood bestie Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) how to woo a suitor and finally find a match, Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton), the third child of the Bridgerton family, realizes that he's been in love with his best friend all along. Though it does take a glow-up on Penelope's part for him to realize that. But when he finally does, he runs after her, jumping onto her carriage and declaring his love for her.

"These past few weeks have been full of confounding feelings," Colin tells a confused Penelope.

"Feelings like a total inability to stop thinking about you. About that kiss," Colin announced. "Feelings like dreaming of you when I'm asleep, and in fact, preferring sleep because that is where I might find you. A feeling that is like torture, but one which I cannot, will not, do not want to give up."

The heartfelt confession culminates in thepassionate carriage scenebetween the two that Coughlan described to USA TODAY as "romantic," "suspenseful," and "sexy."

2. Simon Basset (Season 1)

The season where it all started.

When seeking the queen's approval for their match, the Duke of Hastings delivered a heart-fluttering speech that had everyone weak in the knees.

"It was not love at first sight for either of us," Simon told the queen. "There was attraction certainly, at least on my part. But Miss Bridgerton thought me presumptuous, arrogant, insincere, all fair, really. I thought her a prim young lady barely out of leading strings. Not to mention the sister of my best friend and so romance was entirely out of the question for both of us. But in so removing it, we found something far greater, we found friendship."

He continued: "To meet a beautiful woman is one thing, but to meet your best friend and the most beautiful of women is something entirely apart. It is with my sincerest apologies, I must say it took the prince coming along for me to realize I did not want Miss Bridgerton to only be my friend, I wanted her to be my wife. I want her to be my wife," he declared as everyone held their breath.

It was at that moment that Page sealed the duke's spot in romantic drama history.

Later, after the two married,Simon told Daphnehe could not stop thinking about her and that he "burns" for her.

"From the mornings you ease, to the evenings you quiet, to the dreams you inhabit, my thoughts of you never end. I am yours Daphne. I have always been yours," Simon tells his now-wife.

Supermodel and actress Annabel Schofield has died after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

Schofield died at age 62 on Feb. 28 in Los Angeles, according toThe Hollywood Reporter. Following her diagnosis, theDallasactress posted updates about her health to aGoFundMeaccount created to help her with expenses following the diagnosis, with her final update on Jan. 18. In the update, Schofield shared that she had recently undergone emergency surgery to remove a mass from her nasal cavity.

Schofield was born on September 4, 1963, in Llanelli, Wales. Her father was British movie production executive John D. Schofield, who was involved in the production of numerous films, includingJerry MaguireandAs Good As It Gets.

Schofield later moved to London, where she began her modeling career. She would go on to appear on the covers of "hundreds" of fashion magazines, includingVogueGermany andItalianVogue,per the outlet.

Melissa Richardson, the owner of London's Take Two Agency, which began representing Schofield early in her career, reflected on the late model's life, describing her work as essential to the agency's success.

"She was the forerunner of Take Two — without her, we could never have made it as we did. We loved her because she was funny and real and beautiful and down to earth," Richardson said, perTHR. "She never changed from the sweet little 17-year-old Welsh girl I first met. She was directly loyal, caring, and above all, a raging beauty. She knew her craft. She was the best."

She would also work as a model for designer and beauty campaigns, including Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, Rimmel, and Revlon. Her appearance in a late 1980s Bugle Boy Jeans commercial, in which she said "Excuse me, are those Bugle Boy jeans you're wearing?" while driving a sports car, was especially memorable.

In the midst of her successful modeling career, she relocated to Los Angeles and was cast in a recurring role on the hit primetime soap,Dallas. For 12 episodes, she would star as Laurel Ellis, performing opposite Larry Hagman's J.R. Ewing, in the series' 11th season.

Annabel would go on to appear in feature films, includingEye of the Widow.She also worked behind the camera, serving as a crew member onThe Brothers Grimm, DoomandCity of Ember.

Later in life, she founded her own production company, Bella Bene Productions, for which she produced commercials and fashion projects. Then in 2013, she wrote a novel calledThe Cherry Alignment, inspired by her time as a model and actress in the 1980s.

She is survived by her mother and was predeceased by her father and her sister, Amanda Schofield.

This day in history: “People” Magazine launches

March 4, 1974, marks the release of the first issue of People magazine. Actress Mia Farrow appeared on the cover of the inaugural issue.

Richard Stolley, former assistant managing editor of Life Magazine, founded People. Stolley emphasized that he wanted to focus on "the headliners, the stars, the important doers, the comers, and plenty of ordinary men and women caught up in extraordinary situations." His vision was to spotlight people's lives.

Thefirst issueprofiled William Peter Blatty, author of The Exorcist; designer Gloria Vanderbilt; and Marina Oswald, widow of Lee Harvey Oswald, John F. Kennedy's assassin. It cost 35 cents and was printed in black and white, except for the cover. The issue sold 1.4 million copies.

Before its official launch in 1974, the magazine produced a "dummy" test issue featuring Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton on the cover. Stolley circulated the issue among the male staff, who described it as"journalistic popcorn."He then contacted Clare Boothe Luce, the widow of Time Inc. co-founder Henry R. Luce, who tested it at her hair salon.

The magazine found success among women and on newsstands. ​"It is bound to be the best-read magazine in any hairdressing salon in America—and in any doctor's or dentist's waiting room." ​The intention was that "it will probably be read from cover to cover, because reading it is like eating peanuts—you can't stop once you begin."

Because the senior editorial staff was predominantly male, Stolley hired Shirley Estabrook as deputy news editor. After Stolley eventually left the magazine, Pat Ryan succeeded him, becoming the second woman to serve as a Time Inc. managing editor.

The magazine has continued to feature singers, actors, royals, and more. It is most notable for lists such as "The 100 Most Beautiful People" and "Sexiest Man Alive." People is known for bringing entertainment and celebrity news to mainstream media, inspiring other magazines such as Us Weekly and TV celebrity news shows like "Entertainment Tonight."

Currently, People has 32 million weekly magazine readers and 77 million monthly website visitors. For its50th anniversary in 2024, the magazine showcased some of its most iconic cover stars, including Oprah Winfrey, Serena Williams, and Dwayne Johnson. Staying true to its mission of highlighting people's lives, the commemorative issue also revisited individuals who faced extraordinary circumstances, such as Jessica McClure, who survived falling into a well as a baby in 1987, and Jeanne White-Ginder, mother of AIDS activist Ryan White, who passed away in 1990.

Editor in Chief Wendy Naugle wrote in her editor's letter for the issue, "Our goal is to take our readers up close to our subjects so that we can all understand what motivates them and to find the commonality of the human experience, the ups and downs, the tragedies and the triumphs."
