Scrubsis returning to Sacred Heart Hospital after its original run from 2001 to 2010. Zach Braff, Donald Faison, Sarah Chalke, and Judy Reyes will reprise their iconic roles in a revival series, alongside several new additions joining as recurring guest stars. A decade and a half after fans said goodbye to Sacred Heart Hospital, the stars ofScrubsare getting ready to stage a comeback — and now it's time to meet all the MDs who are returning. A revival series based on the beloved sitcom will follow Dr. John "J.D." Dorian (Zach Braff) and Dr. Christopher Turk (Donald Faison) as they scrub in together for the first time in a long time. "Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time," the series' logline teases. "Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way." Also returning?Sarah Chalke, who portrayed J.D.'s love interest Dr. Elliot Reid;Judy Reyes, who played head nurse (and Turk's love interest) Carla Espinosa on the original show; andJohn C. McGinley, who portrayed J.D.'s mentor Perry Cox. The actor and director played the central physician on the medical sitcom for its first seven seasons on NBC and its eighth on ABC. He also returned for six episodes of the show's ninth season, which introduced a new set of primary characters. Since the show's end, Braff has maintained close professional ties with Faison, who memorably played J.D.'s bestie, forming a quintessential TV bromance. Prior to his time onScrubs, Faison appeared in films likeCluelessandCan't Hardly Wait. He has also headlined other sitcoms, including TV Land'sThe Exesand NBC'sExtended Family. Faison has done voice work for a number of animated projects, includingRobot Chicken, where he later interned to study stop-motion animation. Chalke played Dr. Elliot Reid on the first eight seasons of the show. Her character was J.D.'s primary love interest, and the two MDs eventually tied the knot and welcomed a child. Chalke guest-starred in four episodes of season 9, after being a series regular for the show's first eight seasons. While visiting EW's video suite atSan Diego Comic-Conin July,Chalke shared one of her dream plotlines for the revival. "I can't tease any plot details because I don't know any because it's all so new," she said. "Someone just asked me if I have any requests for the plots, and I just said, 'Flash mob. I wanna be in the flash mob.' So, I don't know how that works into the storyline, but I think there's a way." Her character began dating Turk (Faison) during season 1, and the couple remained together throughout the show, getting hitched in the season 3 finale and eventually welcoming two kids. Reyes was not among the smaller group ofScrubscast members who returned for the series' reimagined ninth season. She will star on the revival series on a recurring status. Chatting withTVLineafter news broke of her return, Reyes revealed that Turk's better half is still a nurse, adding: "She loves that s‑‑‑. A good chunk of the team is still working together, and I love that." "That [first table read] was really special," she added. "It was kind of like we just left for lunch and came back and saw each other. It was very emotional with how terrific the script was and how much of our original team was actually there — including the writers. It was kind of like we never left. McGinley portrayed the acerbic attending physician who found himself as the unwilling mentor to the show's protagonist, J.D. The actor was among the smaller group ofScrubscast members (including Braff and Faison) who returned for the series' reimagined ninth season. Dr. Cox, who had become the chief of medicine at Sacred Heart by the eighth season, transitioned to being a professor when the hospital was turned into a medical school in season 9. Like Braff, McGinley is a frequent Bill Lawrence collaborator. Following his run onScrubs, the actor was a series regular on the TBS comedyGround Floor, which Lawrence co-created and executive-produced. Lewis will reprise his role as Hooch as a recurring guest star in the revival, although since his character was arrested for taking interns hostage in season 4, it'll be interesting to see how he makes his return.
