Jacob Elordiwants to make you swoon.

The "Euphoria" star goes full hunk in Emerald Fennell's "Wuthering Heights," playing the strapping Heathcliff oppositeMargot Robbie's repressed Catherine Earnshaw.

In the R-rated movie's sexiest scene, Catherine is pleasuring herself by a rock on the blustery English moors when Heathcliff wanders up to her. Flustered, an embarrassed Catherine scolds Heathcliff and shoves grass in his mouth as he leans in for a kiss. Undeterred, he grabs her by the front of her corset and lifts her to eye level using only one arm, gazing at her lustfully before dropping her to the ground.

Heathcliff (Jacob Elordi, right) quite literally sweeps Catherine (Margot Robbie) off her feet in "Wuthering Heights."

The titillating moment got an audible reaction from women in our theater audience.

"That was Emerald's direction: 'Do this so a minimum of two women gasp in every screening,' " Elordi joked to USA TODAY.

Fennell had written Heathcliff's one-handed pickup into the script. Out of the blue one day, she texted Elordi asking if he could "single-arm curl a 50-kilogram dumbbell," which translates to roughly 110 pounds.

'Wuthering Heights' premiere looks from Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi

Drive us madwith your"Wuthering Heights"fashion looks, Margot and Jacob ...The stars of the upcoming Emerald Fennell adaptation of Emily Brontë's 1847 gothic novel have fans swooning over red carpet looks and press tour interactions.Margot Robbie, who plays Catherine Earnshaw, andJacob Elordi, who portrays Heathcliff, stepped out in Los Angeles this week to promote the film, out in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026.

"I was like, what?" Elordi recalls. "First of all, I'd never spoken about the gym with her at all. I thought she was asking me a Pilates question. And genuinely, this is how little she knows about the gym: She thought that I would be able to just deadlift a 50-kilogram weight. I'm very thin!"

"I remember in the script, there was a lot of Heathcliff picking her up, putting her in a tree, things like that," Robbie adds, laughing. "I was like, 'Well, we'll just have to figure that one out on set.' "

Robbie says she was tempted to take home many of Catherine's costumes, including the "amazing leather corset" she wears in that sequence.

"Every time I walked onto set, I was like, 'Oh, my God, I want that! I want that!' " she recalls. "And then in the end, I didn't steal a single thing. What a waste."

Fennell, meanwhile, makes dashing use of Elordi's imposing physique, as the 6-foot-5 actor towers over the 5-foot-6 Robbie in every scene.

"Wuthering Heights" star Jacob Elordi, right, studied his dog and Japanese butoh dance to play the Creature in "Frankenstein."

The Aussie recently earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination forplaying the sensitive, misunderstood monster in "Frankenstein."He studied his golden retriever, Layla, to find the Creature's movements, but took a much simpler approach to Heathcliff.

"The physicality in 'Frankenstein' required such a departure that I went as absurd with the movement as I could," Elordi says. "Whereas for me, the idea of Heathcliff was very much like a straight, stiff edge. So I turned to cinema mostly and went through period films, like Laurence Olivier's 'Wuthering Heights.'

"There's one word I think of when I think of Heathcliff and it's 'brooding,' " Elordi adds. "So I tried to take that tact and stillness, and let the text inform the character."

NEED TO KNOW

  • Camila Cabello announced in February 2024 that she decided to do something different and go platinum blonde

  • In the months that followed, the singer opened up about the difficult process of returning to her dark roots

  • But on Wednesday, Feb. 11, she celebrated how she's been working to get her hair back to its previous health

Camila Cabellois embracing her natural hair.

On Wednesday, Feb. 11, the singer, 28, posted anInstagramcarousel sharing snaps of her darker natural hair.

The "Havana" singer's post includes several selfies of her dark brown hair, along with more photos of Cabello wearing her hair in a messy updo while spending time with friends.

She captioned her post by commemorating the journey of returning to her roots. "it's taken a year but my hair has finally started to forgive me  for bleachgate," her caption began.

The Grammy nominee then jokingly added: "dark haired girls who have made it to hair health again comment your tips like it's group therapy."

The post comes two years after she first debuted her platinum blonde hairdo in February 2024. Shortly after, she was seen with the new look, when she appeared on Alex Cooper'sCall Her Daddypodcast and said she was looking for a transformation.

"You know, I felt like I needed a big, physical change," the "Señorita" singer said in March 2024. "I feel, I don't know, my dark hair has been with me for all of my life, like it was just a significant part of how the public saw me, how the world saw me, and how I saw myself."

"I feel like it's just been a year of, like, the theme has very much been 'play' and 'transformation' and changing and being brave," Cabello said. "I was like, 'I feel like physical change needs to accompany that.' "

At the time, her hair colorist,Nikki Lee, said that the singer's new hair required three appointments to complete. Lee explained, "Camila wanted a big moment for 2024, and what bigger moment than her going platinum blonde?"

But as the months passed, Cabello opened up about how she wasn't a fan of the look by December 2024. At theTribeca Festival at Art Basel Miami Beach, she said, "I did love being blonde in the beginning. In thebeginning."

"But that s--- starts looking like rope real quick — like a horse is about to take a bite, like a salad. It starts drying," she candidly said.

"There's a three-shade maximum, so you can either go three shades lighter or three shades darker, and that's fine for your hair. Any more than that, you can't do for more than a few months. It fries it."

She revealed that she wished she had known about the harmful effects of long-term bleaching on dark hair. "It's going to take a long time torebuild my beautiful, beautiful hair," she said.

Dispute over Cardi B's Super Bowl cameo roils prediction markets

Cardi B's appearance during Bad Bunny'sSuper Bowl halftime showhas stirred debate among prediction market users, raising questions about whether she actually "performed."

Prediction markets users placed divergent bets on whether the rapper would perform at the halftime show, which the NFL says drew approximately 128 million viewers.

When Cardi B took the stage on Sunday, the Grammy winner danced alongside celebrities including Karol G, Young Miko, Jessica Alba and Pedro Pascal on a pink porch set. But it was unclear if the artist was singing, creating a murky situation for the nation's most prominent prediction markets.

Polymarket is scheduled to issue a final decision on Wednesday, while Kalshi is facing a backlash after choosing not to declare a winner.

Kalshi instead settled the market at the last traded price before it was paused — paying 74 cents per contract to "No" holders and 26 cents to "Yes" holders — effectively issuing partial payouts. The company cited rules it has to address situations like this when there is ambiguity.

That decision prompted one Kalshi user to file a complaint with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the independent U.S. agency that regulates prediction markets.

Millions wagered on the halftime show

Prediction markets allow users to wager on the outcome of future events, typically by responding to "yes" or "no" questions — called event contracts — and putting down a buy-in amount.

Leading up to the Super Bowl,KalshiandPolymarkethosted event contracts revolving around whether Cardi B, among other artists, would perform, which racked up $47.3 million and $10 million in trade volume, respectively.

Some Polymarket users hashed out the debate in the comments section of the event contract, with some claiming they were scammed.

"There's no way that you would count a cameo as a performance," one person wrote. Another argued that a "performance" does not exclusively mean singing.

Polymarket did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In response, one user filed a complaint with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), first reported bythe Event Horizon newsletterand posted byFront Office Sports. The user, who purchased a "yes" contract, claims that as a result of Kalshi's decision to settle the market price at the mid-trading value, they received $1,300 instead of $5,000. The user is seeking $3,700 in compensation.

CFTC declined to comment.

"The rules were clear. Under the full rules, singing and dancing counted as a performance, but just dancing in the background did not," a Kalshi spokesperson said in an email to CBS News. "In the as-broadcast performance, Cardi B was dancing and mouthing words to the song, but it was unclear if she was 'singing'."

On the day of the Super Bowl, Kalshi reported a daily record high of more than $1 billion in trading across its site, up 2,700% from last year.

Wagering on sports events has faced some pushback from states including Connecticut, which isarguingthat platforms offering "sports events contracts" are illegal.

Some regulators, however, appear to be shifting their stances. In late January, CFTC Chair Michael Seligdirectedthe agency to withdraw a2024 rule proposalthat sought to prohibit political and sports-related contracts. Selig said the advisory "contributed to uncertainty in our markets."

Suspect in Canada school shooting is identified as 18-year-old who had prior mental health calls

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Police on Wednesday identified the suspect in a school shooting in Canada as an 18-year-old who had prior mental health calls to her home and who was found dead following the attack that killed eight people in a remote part of British Columbia.

Canada Shooting

Royal Canadian Mounted Police Deputy Commissioner Dwayne McDonald said Jesse Van Rootselaar had a history of mental health contact with police, and that the suspect's mother and stepbrother were found dead in a home near the school.

The motive remained unclear.

Police initially said nine people were killed Tuesday in the attack, but McDonald clarified Wednesday that there were eight fatalities, plus the suspect, who authorities said shot herself. McDonald said the discrepancy arose from a victim who was airlifted to a medical center. Authorities mistakenly thought that person had died.

More than 25 people were wounded Tuesday in the attack in the small mountain community of Tumbler Ridge, police said.

Town is near border with Alberta

The town of 2,700 people in the Canadian Rockies is more than 1,000 kilometers (600 miles) northeast of Vancouver, near the provincial border withAlberta.

Police said the victims included a 39-year-old teacher and five students, ages 12 to 13.

McDonald said the suspect's mother, who was also 39, and an 11-year-old stepbrother, were found at the suspect's home.

The killings at the home occurred first, he said. A young family member at the home went to a neighbor, who called police.

At the school, one victim was found in a stairwell and the rest, McDonald believed, were found in the library. The suspect was not related to any of the victims at the school, he said.

"There is no information at this point that anyone was specifically targeted," McDonald said.

Police recovered a long gun and a modified handgun. McDonald said officers arrived at the school two minutes after the initial call. When they arrived, shots were fired in their direction.

"Parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers in Tumbler Ridge will wake up without someone they love. The nation mourns with you, and Canada stands by you," an emotional Prime Minister Mark Carney said as he arrived in Parliament.

Deadliest rampage since 2020

The attack was Canada's deadliest rampage since 2020, when a gunman inNova Scotia killed 13 peopleand set fires that left another nine dead.

Carney said flags at government buildings will be flown at half-staff for seven days and added: "We will get through this."

Shelley Quist said her neighbor across the street lost her 12-year-old. "We heard his mom. She was in the street crying. She wanted her son's body," Quist said.

Quist said her 17-year-old son, Darian, was on lockdown in the school for more than two hours. The provincial government website lists Tumbler Ridge Secondary School as having 175 students in grades 7 to 12.

"The grade sevens and eights, I think, were upstairs in the library, and that's where the shooter went," she said. Her son was in the library just 15 minutes prior to the attack.

Quist was working at the hospital down the street when the shooting started.

"I was about to go run down to the school, but my coworker held me back. And then I was able to get Darian on the phone to know he was OK," she said.

Darian Quist said he knew the attack was real when the principal came down the halls and ordered doors to be closed. He said fellow students texted him pictures of blood while he remained locked down in a classroom.

"We used the desk to block the doors," he said.

School shootings are rare in Canada, which hasstrict gun-control laws. The government has responded to previous mass shootings with gun-control measures, including arecently broadenedban on all guns it considers assault weapons.

A video showed students walking out with their hands raised as police vehicles surrounded the building and a helicopter circled overhead.

Village is a 'big family'

Tumbler Ridge Mayor Darryl Krakowka said it was "devastating" to learn how many had died in the community, which he called a "big family."

"I broke down," Krakowka said. "I have lived here for 18 years. I probably know every one of the victims."

The Rev. George Rowe of the Tumbler Ridge Fellowship Baptist Church went to the recreation center where victims' families were awaiting more information.

"It was not a pretty sight. Families are still waiting to hear if it's their child that's deceased and because of protocol and procedure, the investigating team is very careful in releasing names," Rowe said Tuesday.

Rowe once taught at the high school, and his three children graduated from there.

"To walk through the corridors of that school will never be the same again," he said.

The school district said the high school and elementary school will be closed for the rest of the week.

Carney's office said he called off a planned trip to Halifax, Nova Scotia, and Munich, Germany. He had been set to announce a long-awaited defense industrial strategy Wednesday in Halifax before heading to Europe for the Munich Security Conference.

British Columbia Premier David Eby on Tuesday said he had spoken to the prime minister about the "unimaginable tragedy."

"I know it's causing us all to hug our kids a little bit tighter tonight," he said. "I'm asking the people of British Columbia to look after the people of Tumbler Ridge tonight."

Gillies reported from Toronto.
