Justine Lupe Pranked Her "Nobody Wants This" Costar Kristen Bell Into Thinking She Drank Her Own Urine Every Morning for 5 Weeks

Olivia Wong/Getty Justine Lupe reflected on a prank she pulled on Kristen Bell, which she kept going for several weeks when they first started shooting the debut season ofNobody Wants This Lupe explained that she tricked Bell into thinking she was drinking her own urine every morning, even bringing fake bottles of it to work and getting others in on the prank Bell said that she was so concerned that she consulted with a doctor to see if Lupe's health would be okay Justine Lupe's acting skills come in handy, even when she's not in front of the camera. During a recent appearance withKristen Bellon her husbandDax Shepard'sArmchair Expertpodcast, Lupe, 36, revealed she played an elaborate prank on her onscreen sister shortly after they met. The pair explained that they were filming the second episode of Netflix'sNobody Wants Thiswhen Lupe decided to mess with Bell, 45. "Justine andAdam [Brody]are already in the car chatting — I'm doing god knows what — and I get in the car and I hear her say, 'It's really nutritious and very vitamin-dense,'" Bell recalled. "This entire experience was predicated on my nosiness. So I went, 'What?' And Justine goes, 'Do you ever do this? Do you ever, like, the first urine of the day you drink again?'" The actress, who stars in the popular series as Joanne, joked that Lupe threw out the question right as the director called, "action," leaving her in disbelief. "I'm like, 'What did she just say?'" Bell continued, to which Lupe reiterated that, "'The first urine of the day, the first pee of the day, you drink.' She said, 'Do you hear about this? People doing this drink the urine of the day? People do this to reinstall your minerals, depleted minerals.'" TheSuccessionalum noted that Bell was "much more polite" than she could have been, as she shared that she didn't know how to react. "I was like, 'No, I don't think that's right,'" Bell laughed. For the "next installment" of the prank, Lupe took things to another level by bringing fake pee into work. To make it seem more real, she kept it in a canteen and, knowing Bell listens "to everything," Lupe called someone to bring it to her while the costars waited in the green room. "She's in the corner kind of like this, 'Hey, Rustin. Hey, can you do me a favor? Can you go into my trailer? In my fridge, there's a Yeti container or something, like a liquids container. Can you send it up?'" Bell re-enacted. "'Oh, and I feel like, I don't know what the HR is about this, but I feel like I should tell you it is urine. I mean, if you're okay handling that. Okay, thank you.' Then she just goes back to doing whatever." Because Bell is interested in "biohacking" — which is the practice of using scientific tricks to optimize their health, according toCleveland Clinic— Lupe knew the prank was going to pique her interest. She even created an AI-generated article on the benefits of drinking urine to showThe Good Placealum. "All I wanted to do was my own research," Bell said, so she immediately called physician and influencer Dr. Mike when Lupe left the room. "I said, 'I have a friend who is drinking her own urine. What are the risks slash benefits of this? Have you heard anything about it?'" she shared. "He was like, 'Well, honestly, I think it sounds insane, but I don't think it would hurt her.' He said, 'There are a lot better ways to remineralize, like a multivitamin.'" Erin Simkin/Netflix Bell then took that information to Lupe. "I think I came back with like, 'Oh, yeah. I'm taking all the multivitamins that then lead to the most effective pee,'" she teased. A few days later, Lupe put on what Bell called "one of the most epic performances I've ever seen" when she drank the supposed pee in front of everyone. "We're sitting at the table on set where we record the podcast, and I watch her again," Bell said. "I'm not engaging with her, but she knows that I'm looking, and she grabs her water bottle, and she kind of makes eye contact with me. And again, I'm looking and she goes, 'Do you want to smell it?' And I go, 'No, stop.'" Lupe — who revealed that she already told "everyone" about the prank and made sure people wouldn't let Bell try drinking her own pee — then asked for a mint before taking a big gulp out of the bottle. "Maybe the most shocking thing of this whole prank is that Kristen didn't drink it," Shepard chimed in. "Because she is down to try anything that might help." Bell acknowledged that she has "a very 'why not' attitude" and had been told by Dr. Mike that it wasn't dangerous, but Lupe's next move was what truly set her over the edge. "She rolls up with a cooler and it's, don't know, 18 inches by 15 inches, and she says, 'I have a present for you,'" Bell began. "And I looked at the cooler and I said, 'I hope it's a puppy.' And she set it down on the table outside, and she opened it up, and I see three different-sized mason jars with gradiating color. Some are brown, some are yellow." Hopper Stone/Netflix After Lupe noted that she created the liquid by steeping chamomile tea bags in water, which "smells gross," naturally, Bell continued. "I said, 'Is this your urine?' And she said, 'Yes, I saved three of the best batches for you. They're super super high quality, mineralized.' And she starts touching them. And they're leaking. The thing smells disgusting." It was then finally time to reveal to Bell that it was a prank. "She said, 'April Fools.' And it was April 1," Bell declared. "It was four or five weeks worth of material." Bell commended Lupe for her "commitment," which included all the staged conversations and even recruiting Brody and fellow cast memberTimothy Simonsto participate. "The slow burn prank — it's the first time I've ever done it, and I can't tell you how satisfying [it was]," Lupe confessed.
